Nara and Esmeralda talk about what it’s like to be in an open relationship in Vila Mimosa, Rio de Janeiro’s red light district.
Nara recently had her second child; Esmeralda is married with children. They met working at a brothel in downtown Rio, and recently started working in Vila Mimosa together. “For the flexibility,” Esmeralda says. (Unlike most brothels in Rio, which require sex workers to adhere to strict and exhausting schedules, Vila Mimosa has no schedules – women are free to come and go as they please.)
“We don’t demand anything of each other,” Esmeralda says.
