About
This is a story about independent women in unlikely places.
RED LIGHT RIO is a conversation with women who support themselves and their families working in Rio de Janeiro’s sex industry, during a massive prostitution crackdown to sanitize the city’s image for World Cup 2014 and the 2016 Summer Olympics.
Collaboratively filmed with over seventy sex workers, and in collaboration with Brazil’s Prostitution Policy Watch, this project is an attempt to reframe the conversation about prostitution from one about victims and/or criminals, to one about breadwinners. Edited by @jruv.
